This training provides an overview of the cultural issues that may impact service delivery and strategies for communicating with diverse communities. It helps staff facilitate understanding of cultural competency elements and apply them on the work place.

2 Interpreter Training Certification Program

Interpreting is a rapidly growing professional career. There is an increasing number of bilingual individuals doing the interpreting job in many professional fields. However, there's more to interpreting than simply being bilingual—speaking two languages. Interpreters also need to obey a code of ethics, clarify cultural nuances; know the terminology of the field, and how to handles difficult situations among many things. Our courses will teach bilingual individuals everything they need to know to become a certified interpreter.

Training Length

  • Short Program: 1-day program 7 hours onsite (or 5 sessions on line). Refresher course or certification opportunity for advanced and already trained interpreters.
  • Attendance Program: 3 days (21 hours) program with exam and certification for experienced interpreters.
  • Certification Program: 5 day (35 hours) program with practice and a certification with passing score exam.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I become a certified interpreter?

  • You must take and pass an examination designed to determine whether you meet the requirements to function as an interpreter in your given field.
  • If you are already an experienced interpreter and had been trained before, you can simply take our short program (1 day) and exam, if you pass you will be certified.
  • If you are experienced interpreter but never been trained, you can take our Attendance Program (3 day) and the exam, if you pass you will become certified.

How is the certification exam scored?

You must exceed minimum requirements and scored of least 90% correct on both the written and the oral parts of the Interpreter Certification Exam. You must also pass a language written exam with 80% correct score.

What if do not pass either exam?

You have two opportunities to take the test. If you do not pass the exam after two trials, we recommend you take a short course again (1 day seminar).

3 Language Learning for Professionals

The courses concentrate on developing key language skills in a broad range of life and work situations. Participating in our language courses enhance your abilities to communicate with a *LEP consumers in the work environment.

Maximum of language practice in a minimum of time:

Intensive language group courses where you learn general and specific language skills.

  • You are exposed to activities that will engage you in hearing and speaking the language applicable to you field of work.

  • Your progress is the result of the amount of language practice you get and the amount of practice you master on your own.
  • You will be engaged in an interactive exchange that allows you to practice the language in class or at home.

  • You practice speaking with realistic situations and scenarios.
  • You learn basic grammar and writing in each lesson.
